Old Eczema Photo, 1999
I have to say off the bat that I hate seeing photos like this of myself, and struggling with the idea of posting this. But, I understand that others want to see what eczema looks like in different stages.
As you can see, I had half of an eyebrow. The rest of the hairs had been scratched out at that point. The area around my lips was swollen and was mostly chapped pieces of skin with raw pink flesh underneath. My eyelids were raw – you can see a little blood on the one on the right – and underneath my eyes was swollen from scratching as well. The phone is hiding my neck, which had open wounds at the time.

Annie. You did it! I hope you know how many people will find encouragement and hope in your bravery. That said, your description makes my scalp itch. Ugh!
So proud of you!

Eczema is terrible, my best friend growing up had a very severe case, and he often had many of the symptoms you described. I remember trying to imagine what it must feel like, and I imagine being itchy all the time must drive you nuts.
Thanks for commenting Max!
It drives you nuts, but having compassionate friends makes it easier to deal with emotionally. I’m glad to hear you were there for him.
Well done for posting that photo. I have just posted some more photos of my eczema on my blog but they do not show my face as I’m not as brave as you!
